942f here, my qual was fine, but my quant was lower than the 70% mentioned by OP. I also didn't go to a prestigious undergrad university.

Had my application actually been read, it would have been obvious that I'm a qual scholar. If there was any questions about my ability to do soc-level math, one could have seen the A on my transcripts in a grad level stats course. All this is missed if you are like Harvard and toss the applications immediately after weeding through scores despite you "no cut off" disclaimer.

Had my application been read, the committee would have seen over $20k in grant money I received as an undergrad despite being in a low prestige school. It funded research that went on to be published in a pretty good journal my first year in grad school.

I dont want to say exactly how I found out it wasnt read, but it has to do with unintentionally befriending a very close friend of my Harvard POI. I would suspect the same thing happened at Berkeley, but I can't prove it. I ended up getting accepted at most other places I applied.

Among other reasons, this is why I tend to have nothing but contempt for ivies.

When will the us news ranking come out? Let's make some predictions.

I've gotten anywhere between just expenses covered to expense covered + $750 or so.

As I see it any honorarium, when offered, is just a nice bonus. If you're getting invited to give talks you have an academic job, and going around and giving talks is part of your job, for which you already earn a salary.

I'd neither accept a talk nor turn down a talk as based on the presence or absence of an honorarium on top of expenses.

It seemed that you started with the utmost stupidity: I will not be boring and staff like that, but you even do not have enough idea to design a proper theory course.

This should indicate something. For all of us.

Generally you get all your office furniture including a desk...lol...but it might be worth in a few years for you to buy your own chair/desk. For instance, someone bought one of those stand up chairs. Basically as you get older, it might be wise to invest in a chair/desk that doesn't f7ck your back/body. I'm not at that stage yet as I'm still feeling healthy but if I ever get back issues down the line, I would invest in those stand up desks...plus they can help you lose weight.

Being indistinguishable from an EJMR troll is a pretty bad thing. Of course, G-P *is* the EJMR troll in many cases.

G-P is similar to Jarrod Ramos in a lot of ways. Very concerning.

Here is what you do. Go to your doctor and have your back/posture checked. Chances are there is something off from sitting all the time. Then you contact HR or whatever and you will find that appropriate office furniture is part of your health plan. Worked for me.

Mine was circa 90k. They didn't want much more than that.
